Has 2020 been the most heartbreaking year so far?
The ball drops, the bells chime and people all over the world set to congregate in large numbers, be it Times Square, dinner parties etc to celebrate the ushering of the new year with their near and dear ones. And lets just say that the ringing in of 2020 has been most opportune and fortuitous.Little did we know about the impending series of actions that have changed the course of our lives.
I will be brutally honest here, I was waiting for that one birthday to come my way...yes my 20th birthday this year. It just promised good tidings and a seamless passage of time. But this just led to fleeting moments of chaos and pandemonium all around the globe. It started with a series of domino effects with the spread of the nasty strain known as Corona virus which has impacted every single one of us. And now, I amble about my living room after learning about the death of the great Irrfan Khan.
He really was an actor extraordinaire, a grounded human being and above all a man who was dedicated to his craft, without giving much thought to what naysayers say. Be it his quirky character in Piku or as a fierce Dr. Ratha in The Amazing Spider man or as the narrator from Life of PI,he played each role with aplomb. This drama school graduate showed us that you don't really need to suit the cookie cutter mold of good looks and a chiselled physique to succeed in films, but in actuality its the talent that counts.
The 53 year old was battling cancer prior to his colon based infection and was down to his last penny treating himself and only to emerge victorious for a short while. His eyes glimmering with untapped talent, this underrated talent will stay on not just in my heart but thousands of film goers as well.Media houses are abuzz with the tragic loss that we have faced when I found myself in an abyss after learning of another Thespian's untimely death in the wee hours of the morning-Rishi Kapoor. Yes, he belonged to the Kapoor khandaan and was born with a silver spoon. His death left a void from which anyone would find it hard to recover. From roles in Bobby to Chandini, this yesteryear powerhouse of talent was a legend in his own right and the unexpected demise of both of these cinematic legends has left a hole in our hearts. The bereaving actors and colleagues share their anguish via social media . The next big thing of 2020 were the towering inferno created by the Australian bush fires. In the muggy heat of January, Australia was ravaged at its core by fiery lashes that spread far and wide. The collateral damage and its irreparable loss on flora and fauna has to be a lesson for us to practice any and all forms of sustainable development.. It has indeed been trying and testing times for all of us, but what winners do it they push through and fight and I give you my word that we will see better days. This pall of gloom looming over our heads will vanish and bring joy and hope for the remainder of the year. Until then, stay safe, exercise caution and live your life to the fullest.
