A romcom with a smooth descent-Notting Hill

Notting Hill (1999) is just one of those 1999 classics that's right up there. Fresh, quirky and humorous in its own sweet way, it promises a sea of emotions to all the viewers out there. The premise of the movie majorly takes place in the heart of London. A young, floppy-haired bookstore owner's pursuit of falling head over heels over a famous actress(portrayed by Julia Roberts  ) is something very generic but the manner of approach here is very adorable and delightful.

Starting a dalliance with a household name,Hugh Grant's character realizes that the pitfalls of dating an actress who is always in the throes of the limelight and at the receiving end of adulation is a minefield. His average Joe persona which later on impresses the actress, finds its way into page 3 gossip columns. Their link-ups create a lot of tension and a stir in the media world. She finds it difficult to manage the relationship with the paparazzi trailing behind her like sheep.

There are elements of humor, sarcasm some teachable moments thrown into the mix here and there. The pace is a little monotonous and the momentum gets flagged, but logic is sacrificed at the altar of almost all romcoms. The cliche that the hero and the heroine ride off into the sunset is also reinforced here, but with a grain of salt. And no, Hugh Grant's meek and humble character is definitely not a gold digger here. He swung for the fence and he lands a really famous actress as his wife only because, well its a movie and to instill a sense of hope and confidence into normal people who struggle to establish cohesive relations with the opposite sex.

And when you have two major dreamboats and heartthrobs like Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, need I say more? It surely is a lively take on modern-day relationships and a Valentine's day gift to your loved one. Celebrate true love through this light-hearted romantic comedy that is bound to sprinkle a smile onto your face.

Let that British humor work its way through you and I promise you that this cheesy flick will soothe your heart faster than melted caramel. Blimey, with its even wonderful supporting cast that bring the movie to life ,it is a treat to behold on a Saturday night curled up in a comforter next to your date.

Notting Hill (film) - Wikipedia
Cheeky, witty and utterly romantic it will leave you laughing on the floor and well as find you in the character's shoes trying to figure out what happens next. A wee bit predictable, it still grows on you with that age-old English charm. Sans profanity and adultery, this is a work of pure artistic passion and gravitas. Bravo.Still remains at the apex of my favorite movies list. With its carefully-executed screenplay and the graceful elegance of a swan, its cinematography score is by far, my most cherished aspect of the movie. Never have I ever rooted so strongly for love and its tidings. The summit of Notting Hill is promising and so is its descent. Smooth without any jagged halts in the flick makes it an interesting endeavor.
