Does this year's labour's day really belong to the labourers?
The mud caked roads are laden with footprints, all belonging to people making their journey back home. This affliction of Covid19 has created a void so big that the commemorative May 1st really doesn't bring much else, apart from widespread sorrow.
The economic ramifications wherein stagnant jobs and unemployment on the rise is really just a bad brush with what the reality is.
Why is Labor's day celebrated, you ask? Well, the general tradition goes that it is that special day which unites forces who either belong to menial labor union trade labor and basically workers who work round the clock and their achievements are given due credit. Labour's Day has become a significant and historic pivot for world peace and normalcy.
But nature decided to play spoilsport and extended its wrath onto Good ol' Earth, thus leading to an alarming and skyrocketing rate of unemployment in key sectors of the economy. The agriculture sector which is primary to our nation as we derive most of our key revenue from it has taken a big hit and is failing to sufficiently generate any income. Farmers have been displaced and are just praying for the Virus to peacefully pass by.
The workforce or the labor force are essentially the backbone of our nation and we rely on their expertise for a smooth functioning of our food chain but now clearly the system has lent its way to nothing but a very disturbed paradigm that is unable to be flattened(pun intended).
People's lives are on tenterhooks right now and this crucial situation has even left many preeminent policy makers confused as to the current course of events. The ones who tread with honor and provide us essential services are key for the sustenance of our democratic setup.
But what do you propose for a Corona free world? How would a post-corona world pan out?
Will the labor force reemerge stronger and more battle hardened than ever?
Countless questions to ask but only time will tell.
But one thing is for sure and I know the viewers out there will second my opinion that this May 1st is clearly not in the favor of our jolly good workmen out there. But their services are always handy and appreciated with equal regard as this is but a minor setback for our economy.
Will the Corona teach us to be more wary of our health?
Once again, we will have to wait and see.
This is a clarion call to every underdog out there who is championing the worker's cause and this is nothing but a minor hiccup on the path to economic vitality and success.
Individuals eking out a living earn but a menial pittance but their efforts are not in vain. People from all walks of life, echelons of social strata are losing jobs at a devastating rate but let us join hands in celebrating the efforts undertaken by everyone in making the world a better place. We will fight through this.
I still vividly remember the day when our school was celebrating Labor's day and the exercise of standing by our fellow men and appreciating them left me completely dazed and dumbfounded.
The lot of us would encircle ourselves and sing praises about the workforce who have aimed to deliver so much to us. That part has been etched in my mind and tears well up in my eyes as I am inundated by a series of thoughts that I could pen to the great and hardworking labor force.
So set aside all the hate and cruelty for just this one day and join me by celebrating the quintessential victors.
HAPPY MAY 1T, PEOPLE AND TAKE CARE. DO YOUR BIT AND WE CAN KEEP THIS DREADED CORONA AT BAY.
