Why are airports such fascinating places?
Planes hurtling along the runway at light speed, The charm of the weather playing catalyst for easy passage, people scurrying back and forth for either delayed flights or duty free purchases, these are all sights to behold. I for one was always amazed at the prospect of visiting an airport and examining people from all walks of life, without a care in the world just hustling to get to their destinations. Not to mention, the mechanized apparatus known as an airplane has always made my mind jog faster than a marathon runner.
With technological marvels being put forth every nanosecond, my wonder-struck mind when seeing an Airbus A380 was sheer joy. Studying the gait and the strides of the people in an airport used to be my way of killing time as my family would sit beside me with a paper curled up in both palms and my mom busy munching on her favorite goodies while my brother accompanied me to check out all the colorful displays on the stores. Be it breathing the intoxicating air of the Swarowski to the Issey Miyaki to buying mouthwatering delectables like the staple white chocolate(a favorite of ours), they were all small yet treasured events in my impressionable mind.
Airports were just the start of my journey in discovering some real wonder left in this world. Fleeting and transient movements of the people there who all have a plane to catch is just a gentle reminder of how you have to stop, look back and savor the few moments of joy left in this world, lest it slip away in one fell swoop.
My young mind however was always intrigued at the thought of the stewardesses onboard the plane. The faces caked with excessive makeup was an assault on my senses back then but you get to appreciate it in a new light as you grow up. From daytime sojourns to neighboring places in India to the bland tasteless food available and even to the inflight entertainment system, which only contained a select few movies were aspects that excited me and filled me with dopamine.
Traveling has always been something that I hold very dear to me and this side of me was only explored via traversing through flights and undertaking long, arduous journeys by trains or in congested stuffy cars, that this latent feeling was discovered.
There is still a lot more wonder left in the world and I aim to seize the moment. A bucket list of items to accomplish before you die has always captured my imagination and who knows what's in store for me? only time will tell.
Until then, happy journey, godspeed and safe travels.
Travel light and let your dreams soar like the airplane and let your dreams glide across the sky.
