Why are dogs touted as man's best friend?
Their tiny innocent paws clenched against my hands,
Their furry coat brushed against my skin,
Their soulful eyes seem to gaze deeply into mine,
And that was when I realized that my affinity for pets was something that couldn't be contained.
I remember times when I was young and grappled with naivete that every unplanned encounter that I had with dogs were well documented by me in the form of pictures. Call it stalking or a creepy obsession, dogs seem to enliven that deep-seated part of you that you never knew existed.
Why is it that mankind seems to be just transfixed at the mere sight of a dog. In part due to the wonderful culture that it is associated with. Doesn't the thought of going home to your dog after a hard and long day's work just envelop you with joy. Studies have also pointed out that owning a dog or any pet for that matter lowers risks and bouts of depression, escalates your endorphins and increases longevity.
Dogs are a bundle of joy to be around and aptly reciprocate...as long as you feed it of course.It never bites the hand that feeds it as it is obligatory on its part. You's have to be barking mad to not enjoy their company(pun intended) as pretty much every single household adopts or owns dogs, either to guard them during precarious situations or as a means to combat loneliness. Look at them, their happiness knows no bounds. Humans and dogs share a deep bond that can be written as a footnote in history. Be it them running errands for you or just standing by you or even displaying its athletic prowess by grasping a Frisbee in the park, they ask for nothing in return. Except that you show love and they give back. They don't care about age, social standings, beauty among others but if you willingly place your heart on his shaggy and lustrous overcoat, he will give you his.
It is also a proven fact that newborns and growing infants find more solace when a pet dog is around.
Isn't it ironic that they have been created to give love and the human race has been created to take love?! Their existence perhaps raises a pertinent question for us to rethink our actions and behavioral patterns.
Maybe the only silver lining in my world is the company of a dog, an escape rather from this harsh and vile world. I personally, find my existence much more fruitful if these little fur-balls become the centre of my universe.
Trudging on along the road, with its lithe and graceful strides and their eyes being limpid pools of desire into which I can easily drown in, I can safely say that dogs are indeed man's greatest gift and only loyal friend(as opposed to your fellow man). It really is a dog eat dog world out there, people so just embark on a journey with these glorious creatures and you will find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. These adorable little dolls will lead to a promise land from which no man would ever want to return.
