7500:Fasten your seatbelts for an epic landing-a movie review

Image
7500.A micro-budget flick which ironically enough, is  a visual spectacle. Starring an A-Lister like JGL(Joseph Gordon Levitt) is a bold move to gain traction for a movie made on a shoestring budget. Its reputation as well as hype increases tenfold. He is one of those actors that don't disappoint. Be it his role in Inception by the legendary Christopher Nolan or in his own directorial debut Don Jon, his work ethic is the most impressive in all of his 39 years. This young, exuberant man portrays a morally conflicted co-pilot in 7500.And man, does he nail it!   The story takes place entirely within the confines of the cockpit, barring a few odd scenes here and there. He(Tobias Ellis) is introduced to us as a very soft-spoken, well mannered individual who makes a living as a co-pilot for commercial planes. He braves the turbulence, the wrath of nature, bad stormy weather, all with the help of his German senior-Michael(Carlo Kitzlinger). In a span of 15 minutes, the overall tone seems

Uri-invoke the josh in you:a movie review

Image
Simply put, this flick is flawless. Be it capturing the trauma and bloodbath that occurred in Uri, an army cantonment base ensconced in Kashmir where a terror strike was done on the hapless Indians within that very camp. Turns out, a group of Pak militants scurried inside the army base, only to kill off a couple of our Indian brave hearts. Luckily, the martyrs that day were honored. Major Vihaan Shergill(Vicky Kaushal) aims to give the Pak militants a taste of their own medicine. He brings together a team of tenacious and resolute individuals willing to lay their lives down for their motherland and launches a preemptive attack on the rest of the Pak terrorists. This movie stood as an indictment of what the deaths of countless Indian army Jawans face daily on the LOC(Line of control). Truly heartbreaking. Not for the faint of heart, it is raw, gritty and bloodcurdling. The direction is deft and on-point. The characters woven out are central to the plot of the story. Countless moments le

Avengers Endgame: This visual treat will give you goosebumps

The wait is over, ladies and gentlemen. The moment of unveiling is here. Drum roll........ Avengers Endgame. The Russo Brothers once again create an engaging masterpiece shortly after the events of the predecessor . Infinity War emerged as a standalone movie to break all box office records. The sequel too doesn't disappoint. The sheer awesomeness of the budget, the breathtakingly stupendous CGI, the character development and the dichotomy of the character Thanos along with the psyche of the Avengers were simply great in terms of movie-making prowess. Prepare to be wowed.   The movie takes place five years after the all- powerful and maniacal power hungry Titan- Thanos eviscerates half of the Earth's population. The monster does his deed and lays to rest all his crazy ambitions. He proceeds to live the rest of his life as a farmer is some grateful universe. The Avengers, or whats left of them after the blip( the catastrophic event that Thanos inflicts upon humanity) try to g

The Ram Mandir legacy

Will this be untouched by outsiders once its constructed?! Ladies and Gentlemen, i put it to you. The historic Bhumi Pujan thats about to commence in a few short minutes at the heart of Ayodhya. Yes, its a very exciting and celebratory prospect for the vast majority of ardent religious Indians. the way the halls have been decked with such great pomp and fanfare is actually eclipsed by a great deal of controversies and rich historical significance. Will it last in the eyes of god? IS the Bhumi Pujan a new beginning for the history of RamJanmabhoomi? Are we ushering in a new era? 1) The location and name of RamJanmabhoomi: As the name suggest, the land is supposed to be postulated as the birthplace of Lord Ram from the Hindu mythology. So, it is only fitting to pay homage to the deity of Lord Ram by immortalizing a temple in his honour and name.   2) The Ayodhya dispute:In the bygone era, there were numerous temples built on this very favorable stretch of land nestled in Uttar Prade

Watch this ridiculous web series at your own risk:Breathe, into the shadows

A review. I'll be honest. The minute I found out that it starred Abhishek Bachchan, I was all in. Thirty minutes in, this preposterous web series goes haywire. There are very interesting subplots, but they haven't been utilized into the main story-line. It tries to salvage a semblance of a story, granted I was hooked on to it but felt a sense of emptiness and couldn't connect with any of the characters on screen at all. Abhishek Bachchan is probably the only saving grace of the entire show. The 44 year old star seamlessly and gracefully carries the burden of both Avinash and J with equal aplomb and dignity.  The crux of the story deals with a run of the mill psychiatrist named Avinash Sabharwal(Abhishek Bachchan) and his wife Aba(Nithya Menen) who live a very normal upper middle class life in the heart of Delhi.  Their goody two shoes Princess of a daughter named Siya gets mysteriously kidnapped by a masked assailant. What ensues is a really convoluted hide and seek ga

All that glitters is not gold:Blood diamond

Image
Conflict diamonds or blood diamonds are this treasure trove of goodies that financial conglomerates have a stake over, after mining it from war-torn African Nations. The blood-lust of the warlords who annexed the land of the Africans and coerced them to mine diamonds is exactly the backdrop that inspired the events of the film-Blood Diamond. The movie is raw, gritty and extremely symbolic of the arms trade fueled in the dark continent of Africa through the aid of these "blood diamonds." It soon becomes a no-man's land. Political persecution, shoot on sight, illicit diamond smuggling are recurring motifs in the film. The story introduces key characters like that of Solomon Vandy(Djimon Honsou) who is a pauperized fisherman. His family is taken under the refuge of one of the African Federation. He, being the doting father that he is, sets out to find his family. In this process, he crosses paths with arms dealer/middleman masquerading as a journalist-Danny Archer(played by

Sushanth Singh : The shooting star

Image
Sushanth Singh Rajput. Deemed an outsider but found a way to crawl into our hearts. From giving out blockbuster hits like Dil Bechara where he plays a cancer stricken patient to an aspiring cricketer in Kai Po Che, he was on the path to fame, adulation and immense success. But these were all short-lived. Fueled by an inherently nepotistic industry, they pushed him to the dark alley of oblivion, forever and ever. A misrepresented case of "suicide" is in fact a cold-blooded murder. The gaping loopholes that's staring us in the eyes has to finally gain some closure. A brutal murder of a beloved celebrity is sure to give rise to corroborating facts and reasons leading to his untimely demise. Rumor has it that he suffered from frequent bouts of depression, but it wasn't nearly as severe as it was made out to be. His supposed "girlfriend" Rhea Chakraborty masqueraded as his girlfriend but in actuality, swindled his money for her own personal gain. This gold digg

The ride to an unsatisying destination: Bad Boys for life

Image
A high octane roller coaster ride:Bad Boys for life Admittedly, this is the kind of movie to get rave reviews. This acts as a threequel to the first two Bad Boys movies and perhaps also serves as the best movie of the three. The movie has with it equal ounces of action, romance, fight sequences and car crashes and everything that the viewers are looking for. Sadly, the humour element seems to be missing, partially due to the massive amount of F-bombs strewn throughout the movie and mind-numbing violence. The first two flicks in the franchise had something to offer to the viewers but sadly never made it big in the box office. This action potboiler too follows the same path. It works until a certain peak, but then follows a jolting decline, in quality, content as well as quantity.                                                             The story follows the escapades of two battle-hardened cops by the name Marcus Burnett(Martin Lawrence) and Detective Mike Lowry(Will Smi
